Why NOT to use antivirus? EDIT-> ...why not to install AV or not to use resident AV... 1.) Many AVs consider packed executables to be viruses (tons of false positives) 2.) Most of Hack Tools are blocked or deleted y default. Why? Thee are not viruses!? 3.) AVs has some critical false positives, Kaspersky AV had some. 4.) AV kills PCs performance. 5.) I'm tired of making endless exclusion list What than? 1) Limited User Account 2) decent firewall with HIPS(Comodo v3*/Outpost v2008*/Online Armor Firewall/Jetico Personal Firewall v2* or v1*) *all additional security options enabled 3) simple antivirus - ClamAV, Comodo AV(don't mix Comodo AV it with Comodo v3 it has integr…

I have this one windows 2003 server machine at my friends work that has problems with AV it uses, its scheduled to make updates regullary, but problem is that every now and then one have to completely remove this AV, reboot and reinstall it in order for it to run normaly. The main service just wont start, technical support could not help, they claim its because there was another AV software installed (i canot verify that claim) and in agreement stands that they are not obligated to find a solution to the problem when that is the case. The error code that AV service spits out is nowhere documented and until we find another suplier/and preferably another AV software i would…

This being a Reversing forum, I'm hoping that at least someone will know how to fix this. I deal with ZIP archives alot for my work, and they have simply stopped being able to be extracted via the shell. Didn't know where else to post this, but I have lost the ability to extract files from a ZIP folder through the windows shell. If i double click a ZIP archive, the usual new windows explorer window pops up. If i then try to drag ANY files AT ALL out of that folder/window, the "moving file" dialog appears, but no file is extracted and/or moved. I will even get the asked confirmation to "replace and existing file" to over write it, but then after confirming, no file is ex…

I was troling about a few minutes ago and went to d/l something off rapidshare and came across this peice of work.. I can totally understand the use of CAPTCHA but this is crazy I dunno maybe it is because I just woke up and my vision is still a little fuzzy, but I cant make nothing out of this jumbled mess at the moment. why can these websites not keep these things half assed ledgable. Or an alternative for "dummies" like myself who can not see cats dangling from letters because the letters look like they have vines growing on them or something. I wanted to d/l a file not solve an optical illusion. I don't wish any harm to anyone but the person responsible for this …

I came to think about this out of pure bordom and reading some old topics, Is smaller releases of patches and cracks ect... better? it seems to be a scene standard to try and release a smaller exe as possiable, my question is why? Reasons why I think it should'nt really matter: 1. Size: With hard drives being messured in TerraBytes I dont think this should be a problem, even if the exe weighed in at 1mb 2. Speed: With the standard everyday proccessors excedding Pentium 4's I hardly think speed is an issue, maybe milliseconds speed gain by using API calls 3. Resources: Well from I see everybody has at least 1GB of ram memory so I dont think a memory foot print of a couple …
