Extremely sad news. After 20 years, Planet Source Code is shutting down. June 16, 2015I have some extremely sad news. After 20 years, Planet Source Code is shutting down. The storage area network that stored the uploads experienced a catastrophic hardware failure, and all of the uploads have been lost. Without them, it doesn't make sense to continue running the site. Some years ago (1-3) I got my hands on some reverse engineering challenges. They started simple, like "add a save option" on a text editor. I do not remember much about them, but I am trying to find them again. If anyone has any good reverse engineering "challenges" that are not entirelly "crack" based, and are focused more on the understanding of a programs flow, it would be a big help to me. Not sure if this is the right section though. Thank you in advance guys.

More than 600 Million users of Samsung Galaxy smartphones, including the newly released Galaxy S6, are potentially vulnerable to a software bug that allows hackers to secretly monitor the phone's camera and microphone, read text messages and install malicious apps. The vulnerability is due to a problem with the Samsung built-in keyboard app that enables easier predictive text. http://thehackernews.com/2015/06/hacking-samsung-mobile.html

Hello there, I was wondering if is it of a common practice to be able to talk about a specific program and share one's findings. Something like : giving the target name, Url, and then sharing the protection scheme, VA's like serial verification routines and stuff... untill we achieve our goal (exemple: keygening a real app). Or is it forbidden / too dangerous ? I didnt find anything about this in the general rules.. Thanks if you can help, or if you can advise me a place where this is common practice (if it ever exists!) -tusk-

Hello everyone. I'm a newbie reverser that just completed both Random's and Lena's tutorials (thanks a lot authors!) and I found that I really like reversing, and since I saw myself coming back here pretty often I decided to create an account and make a small thread. What would be the best way to continue learning? Should I just dive into the files section, download crackmes and unpackmes and try to solve them? Any recommendation about any that would be good to learn from? How did you guys get into and learned to reverse?Anyway, I hope I'm not too much of a nuisance and I hope that in time I can give something back.

Hi All, I am very new to OllyDbg & I'm trying to find a way to highlight (change color) to address changes in the Address/HEX Dump window. I've looked through it's options & plugings and found nothing, help would be appreciated or just to know it's not possible. Thanks.

As you know, OllyDbg provides labelling. When I see referenced address which assembly code has, I would get information(Label name) if referenced address is labeled. But If labeled address would be referenced indirectly(e.g. mov eax, dword ptr[eax]) or labelled address is stack, OllyDbg cannot show label to reverser. (also, Status bar which is below CPU cannot show label too) Is there other way to view label in OllyDbg? It's too hard to analyze obfuscated code because of this poooor behavior

Most of the world wants to pay big money to anyone for any code execution vulnerability in big user-base software and device firmware. I'm curious what talented reverse code engineering people aren't running to this instead of protector and malware research which if you're lucky lands you some cog position at a security company maybe paying you an engineer wage? A single Korean researcher made $280,000 in 15 minutes at the recent pwn2own. In my experience with exploit research and development you basically need to know basic RCE stuff, not even encryption, and then learn how kernel allocation schemes and page, stack, and heap protection tech works. Most productive…

So my problem is that I can't record anything what is played in any player on my system. Also I can't make pictures so they are all just black and I wanna know why? Exsample: I do just start any video on my PC which gets played in VLC player or any other player etc and normaly I can see the video of course but if I start now any capture tool as FScapture for pictures or Screen2Exe for videos then all what was playing in my player is just black (I mean just the captured file if I play it later) or the captured pictures are also black after (just the part in player all other things…

Sorry if this is the wrong section, but there doesn't seem to be a section for this sort of project. I am at very mature stages in a game development project and I hope to gather a few team members at one of the up-coming full indie conferences to really turn the recent demos into an actual game. The game I have in mind has a graphical theme so akin to the Dark Eden project. I've tried a couple place holder art but I really have trouble finding a sufficient collection of assets to complete a good 'concept design' of the game. So I've decided to write a concept game as a mod of Dark Eden, and then move away from my dependency on their assets as I find an intrigued arti…
