this is really an outstanding project, appreciate the post here. it gives a lot of insight into basic concepts for embedded stuff ( an interest of mine ). Any idea how they were creating the SRAM core dumps for their IDA database? Clearly they must have basic JTAG working. There seem to be a lot of references to this goodfet project which also looks really interesting:

on another page on that site they even have qemu based emulator of the hardware that decodes and encodes audio! so cool.
