If you have been living on another the planet or living under a rock over this past year you may be suprised to know that the 2006 World Cup Finals is just a few days away from starting. It is the biggest sporting tournament in the world so you would have to be bonkers to miss it even if you like football or not

The majority of us think we know who will eventually make it to the final, so lets find out if we are right. Place a vote for who you think will be the last two finalists in this years tournament. I've selected the top 10 teams placed by the bookies from around the world (in alphabetical order)...

I must be living under a rock. World Cup must be a lot huger overseas.

Maybe its just that the 'world' cup involves the, well um, world - as opposed to the world series and such like where the U.S.A seems to forget to invite everyone else!!! :P:D

Voted for England Brazil. Somewhat optimistic admittedly..... England will likely get disqualified after 2 games for having violent, ignorant and arrogant fans.

Let's be realistic dudes; Germany isn't as good as it was four years ago; France is a mess nowadays; England and Spain were "this" close to be left out on the qualifyings and I haven't seen much improvements since; so, the 2006 World Cup champion will came out from this group of four semi-finalists: Brasil, Czech Rep, Argentina and Portugal. At that stage, anything can happen, just remember Greece in 2004.

Nah I can't let that go, just how much higher than top of the qualifying group did England need to finish?. You carry on being realistic and leave us to focus on winning it.

Hmmmm, if this was USA type football, then of course my vote would be for the good old US, but since I don't watch soccer and never heard of the world cup, my vote doesn't count. Is the USA the only place in the world that calls soccer, soccer?

Being the first in the group doesn't mean it was easy, quite on the contrary. If I recall, the "top" was guaranteed on the very last game; England finished 1 (one) skinny point ahed Poland; England 25 and Poland 24. Ah, and it was in a group with very "good" teams like Azerbeijan, Wales, Austria or Northern Ireland...

On the other hand, Portugal finished 7 points ahed Russia in a group of 7. Ah, have I mentioned Portugal scored 7 against Russia too? 7 is a beautiful number, isn't it?

Anyway, that's already past tense right? I wich you luck because you'll really need it. :D

England won 8 of their 10 fixtures, runners up in England's group also won 8 from 10, Portugal won 9 from 12 and runners up won 6 from 12, Portugal's superiority or weak slovak and russia sides failure?, you also forgot to mention the mighty Latvia, Liechtenstein and Luxembourg in portugal's group. Let's not talk statistics and see in four weeks eh?

To be honest, if England don't win, I don't really care who does.

(As long as its not the French.... no offence to the people, just don't like the team!)

Following PakMan's points, I'll be interested in seeing how Portugal do. They haven't had much News/TV coverage over here. They have a few decent players but I think you're being a touch over optimistic.

Anyway, 1 day to go.... let the games begin!

WORLD CUP MAGIC

Brazil won 1970+1994 = 3964

Germany won 1974+1990 = 3964

Argantina won 1978+1986 = 3964

Brazil won 1962+2002 = 3964

But 1958+2006 = 3964

so the team which won 1958 will win 2006..... who ver the champions of 1958 ?????

None but BRAZIL

Well, I have seen Rafa Nadal winning Roland Garros.

I have seen Fernando Alonso winning F1 racing in U.K.

It seems this is Spains's year...

So, I vote for Spain! :1a:
