Any free VPN service you can trust?

Hi guys,

just would like to ask what kind of experiences you do have using VPN services. On internet you can find a lot of diffrent VPN providers (free & pay) telling you how great they are and bla bla bla but the main question is whether it makes any sense to use such services and for what etc to get more privacy.Normaly your ISP can see / log anything you do but also same can the VPN service do +/- selling data profiles of datas they collect (also if they talk about no-logs policy). So who does know or verify that...you know. :) Just would like to know your opinion about VPN's (pos or neg) and which are good / trustable or not.

Nord VPN - Totally Shit Now

Windscribe/Keep Solid/IP Vanish - Who called these things as VPN? Totally Crap

Windscribe's proxy don't work well on many Asian Countries.

Hide My Ass / Express VPN - - mmm Good One. Works Well, Connect Fast and IPs assigned are not spammed almost all the times.

PIA (Private Internet Access) - quite Good. Liked it.

I found Express VPN and PIA good.

Apart from it many Freemium, Free aren't good as they should be.

Tunnel Bear, Hola, Zenmate, Turbo, Switch, Urban-VPN, Vpnify, Torch, Proton VPN almost all are slow and sluggish and IP is detected by all famous sites.

I use NordVPN on multiple devices and find it brilliant and disagree with the above comment about it

Any VPN that is in a 5 eyes, 9 eyes or 14 eyes country are in an international surveillance country and even if they state they have a no logs policy it simply isn't true and they do collect and record your activities and often have a gag order against them to hide the fact that the various agencies have access to everything you are doing. I'm not sure what they do with that info or even if they share the info with your ISP but I would suggest if your thinking of a VPN then to get one outside of these countries

I use Nord because it is based in Panama which is outside of any of the 14 eyes and is super fast on all of my devices even when using servers in various other countries

I needed a good fast VPN for torrents and streaming movies etc. and if you do either then a VPN is a must

It also has a no log policy which has been investigated and confirmed by independent auditors

I haven't seen free ones unless they have some sort of daily bandwidth limit and speeds pretty useless for these anyway but I found Nord quite reasonably priced, I actually paid for 2 years and they gifted me 2 extra years so have it for 4 years and can be used on 6 devices at the same time

I can only comment on Nord as this is the 1st time I have had a VPN but hope the above info helps :D

Would personally avoid Nord VPN after their last fiasco of being hacked and trying to hide it then lied about what happened. They handled the situation horribly and tried to burry any discussion around it and lied.

I use Protonvpn, it is a good VPN and does not track your data and uses encryption for countries where there is no freedom of speech.

to be honest, I don't even the computer I had, when it comes to what the code or the OS is doing in the background, we are weak and clueless.

because they say "we don't save logs" doesn't mean you should believe it, to me a VPN is a way to bypass some surveillance and fight back

against tracking and whatever else is happening while using the internet, everyday we hear about attack vectors we didn't imagine existed before

reading about them, so theoretically some hidden stuff is happening and could be used to decrypt our "secure" connections, but don't get so paranoid

about it, just do what you can.

Not a good one. Google it and you can see so many scams associated with it in the past where they tried to crisscross and route traffic of some of their users to their other users.

Express VPN

Used to be good but the past 1-2 years, after they got their login details been leaked out the basketful, it has gone to the dogs. Not useful for any major purposes these days. All their IPs are blacklisted since a check of the Ip clearly shows that they are from this provider.

Cheap but not good in terms of speed in many cases. Nearly all of their IPs are also blacklisted now. If you google it, you can see that the company was sold off recently and so now most of the users changed to other providers.

True. In most cases if not all cases you are the product!

They are all too slow and are good only for very quick browsing now and then. Their IPs are also blacklisted in many cases.

ProtonVPN (and protonmail) - I would not trust it too much. They do hand over our info to law enforcers when needed. Just google it.

Hi guys,

thanks for your comments about VPN services. So it seems to be really a PITA finding / trust the right one or with other words (only trust yourself).Hhmm.I don't like the thought that everything and everyone get tracked anything what people do or not do using the internet.Normal people also closing their doors / lock them to keep the privacy but most of them just don't care about it on internet because they say "Hey, I don't have to hide anything..." but if we catch them naked at home by standing right in the floor and with a camera in the hand to make some pics then the shouting is big suddenly. :) I think all in all its just keeps a dream to be completely private & anonymous on road anyway what kind of tools you do use and thats really sad and we all get supervised by any smart AI's and algorithms to build profiles about us.Finally we all just running around naked in virtual life and I really don't like that fact. :( Of course I'am not paranoid but just thinking about that entire theme (what all is possible and what all is happens already) makes me worry and angry at the same time.Every bullshit gets analyzed even the internet traffic content itself!Just horrible. :slap:

you can still buy a dedicated server somewhere and deploy a vpn yourself

Bad idea. You'll tend to stand out like a beacon. One of the benefits of a good VPN service with a lot of clients is the plausible deniability the one can claim: "I am not the only one using that IP from that service". I am surprised to see this idea coming you Xyl2k :ltongue: Was expecting a better quality answer from you.

My Experience was worst with Nord VPN. Every time When I connect to any Country and do Google Search, I always get a checkpoint. Instagram/Facebook/WA marketing is totally dead if You use Nord VPN. You will face quick Block, un-usual checkpoints and so many issue.
Let me give you a Live Example of Nord Shitty Behavior. NETFLIX offers1 Month Free Trial to the Singaporean People.
Just connect Your Nord VPN to Singapore and try running Netflix. You will see It still loads default Netflix Page without any Trial.
If You change to Malaysia/Singapore - IP got changed but Netflix detects it and still loads Your Original Country Page.

though WebRTC is blocked and I make sure to clear cache/cookie etc etc.

+ I have seen many times Nord Assigned IPs are useless and found blacklisted (I used to check whoer.net)

and Interface for Login ? - Why the Hell they damn changed it everywhere? I damn need to Login every time when I use the Extension in Chrome/Edge. Sometimes Connection Lost and it keep loading upto infinite. Now in Android App they have changed the Login system too.

If You won't believe just check the Nord Extension Review at Google Chrome Store.

Login System is horrible and sluggish - at least take 1 minute even I am at 1 GBPS speed.
Frequent Logout
Blacklisted IPS
Experienced Original IP Leak issue though Official Team deny that It won't possible.

P.S. - Sorry to Say but I'm totally fed up with Nord VPN and it's poor services.

Agreed with @Taitor at almost all points. Yes HMA is getting worse day by day.
PIA I used in 2017 and It was working well but now a days It's gone totally. It's speed is drastic slow and IPs are not good at all.

Today Experience - Recently I tried more then 10 VPNs and couldn't able to get Trial with any VPNs of Netflix Singapore
Almost all the times, I got Payment declined or didn't get Trial Offer.

I used PureVPN now and It was slow too but IP assigned by it helped me to successfully get the Trial.

if you are afraid about being a beacon just use Tor instead of a vpn, and about vpn, you can buy multiple dedics if you need multiple ips from trusted source, but overall from my point of view it is still better to build your own than rellying on a third party where you don't have control.

I can only speak from my own experience of Nord but obviously will differ between users who use for different things but I will comment on your comments in case it may or may not be useful for others...

I very rarely use Google, I do not like the targeted results based on if someone has paid for ads etc. 99% of the time I use duckduckgo and never had a problem. On the rare occasion I use Google then yes I have had a bot check as you say but have also had this from proxies and Google are generally s**t hot at keeping updated on VPN / Proxy / IP ranges for most Google services including gmail which you need to link your phone to now because they really do not like you staying anonymous

Google is the only time I have seen a bot check using VPN

I don't use Netflix either so this isn't a problem for me, I use the 'Free alternatives' which is the main reason for me getting a VPN but I have heard from friends that Netflix along with Google constantly update their IP ranges for VPNs & Proxies and is probably very easy for them to detect a VPN / Proxy shared IP and some VPN providers are better than others. Nord I believe have a good selection of servers and change IPs often to try to try to combat these issues but you can pay a little extra for dedicated static IP just for you instead of using a shared one

I don't have a need for country changes, the only time I change countries is if I'm using torrents but they do have dedicated servers for P2P and I have never had a speed or connection issue for streaming or torrents, and speeds for me are awesome which was 1 of the reasons I chose Nord

I don't use Chrome, I use Firefox and don't use VPN as an extension, I use the dedicated Windows app on my laptop and dedicated apps on Android phone & Firestick and I have never once had a login or logout issue. My only gripe is with the Windows app which takes a while to load compared to other programs, it might have something to do with the map & server list loading, not really sure

Never had a problem logging in, it's really quick for me but as I said above the app takes a while to load 1st run but I can log out & in quickly once app is loaded

This has never happened to me at least every time I checked and the kill switch works fine which presumably would pass through if leaking original IP

I can only speak for my experience and really haven't had any issues, obviously different people will have different needs for VPNs but for my needs I have seen no issues

I'm not really sure if the VPN trials are different to a paid user or not but as I said I haven't had any issues

I also do not use browser extension to connect, this might be an issue for speeds and IP leaks instead of using the dedicated apps & windows services to connect

I used to use a free VPN extension for Firefox which was limited for daily bandwidth and I did have a few issues / connection problems with it but since becoming a paid VPN user with dedicated apps / services for connection have had zero problems

@BlackHat

If detection is your number one priority, I think Tuxler is a good choice, but in terms of security, it is not.
In the past, I have used it to do some relatively small kind of experimental Methbot fraud with the help of Frida,
chromedriver and yellowcircle servers, and most of the time I went undetected in some popular advertisement platforms.

I am pretty sure the sophisticated actors are using mixnets e.g. Tor and a series of randomized zombies each going through the mixnet.  Of course the source and destination would also use strong encryption if sensitive data were transmitted.  Mixnets at least try to achieve theoretic cryptographically secure anonymity.  VPNs are not designed for anonymity but for a secure connection between source and destination, and can mask IP origin in the process.

Due to excessive abuse of VPNs to do annoying but not necessarily illegal nonsense against all sorts of websites like automated accounts or farming data, cheating in games even, trolling on forums, or basically all things which would generally get an IP banned by a site admin, many VPNs IPs are known and blocked.

The ones already mentioned are still of the best options.  Sometimes ridiculous security measures require use of a VPN to do legitimate activities.
