He's not entirely wrong. A high number of weapons per capita doesn't guarantee a high number of homicides. I think actually it's more related to social problems/inequality than gun control. 

Other than that, the arguments that guns are neccesary for self defense is ridiculous. If you need weapons for self defense something is wrong with your country.

 

Look at the wiki pages and you'll see that Germany has quite a lot of weapons yet a gun-homicide rate that is low.

I think you are correct about social problems in the US being part of the problem that don't help the cause; drugs, general petty crime, gang culture and level of education. At what point do those in power decide enough is enough and curb gun ownership. How many lives have to be lost or how big the tragedy?
