I have made some changes to the main Tuts 4 You page with a new look and because I am hopeless at creating impressive looking logos I am hoping some kind graphics artists will take pity and help me please? :)

I would like a logo using similar colours to the rest of the design and of course if you can throw in a smilie face that would be cool! Thank you in advance...

I think I can help, I am quite good (or at least used to be) at web/graphic design. I will try to come up with something and send some ideas your way.

Here's what I came up with. The colors you used reminded me of those that show up in stereoscopic 3d so I tried to give the text that effect. I moved the search bar under the menu to free up space and as a final touch added the subtle smiley whose opacity can be adjusted depending on how much you want it to distract the viewer.

I might give something different a try later on.

Kurapica, thank you for the info. I put one of the logo's on the site, I will leave it up for a little while to give you time to see it.

Paul, I like the logo and the way it fits in with the smilie nicely. Do you have the logo so I can try it out on the site please?

I do, I can give it to you as a wide header (single image) or the text and the smiley separately. Let me know and I'll upload it here.

Paul, your logo has been added to the page and is looking good, thank you! Please take a look at it and let me know what you think.

Yes, I only needed to remove the padding from the header in the stylesheet then edit the heading to fix an alignment issue in Opera browsers. Seems to be looking okay at the moment although I haven't checked it out in IE...

Looks quite decent although theres still room for improvement. Something just doesn't feel right about the menu, I'll see if I can come up with something better. Also the footer as it is seems useless, I think it could be removed altogether.

I know what you mean about the footer, its a bit pointless. I have removed it so you can see what it looks like without it. Now that it has been removed there seems to be a minor weird display bug (when you click around the footer) in Opera which I will have to track down but in Chrome it looks fine.

Let me know if you come up with some menu ideas... :)

Ted.

Edit: Display bug fixed...

As far as the menu goes I think it should be kept clean and simple with a black background, the one in the example below is doable with plain css .

I used a bold Arial font there. I will also make a crisp rss icon you can use that will match the site and the menu later.

TeamMC, I know it is a bit of a change but the main page has needed the make over for many years. Have you any alternative suggestions?

Paul, I made the changes you recommended so please check out the page now. I haven't made the text bold (but it is now Arial font) because I didn't think it fitted the look right. I also changed the menu border colours and some of the highlighted fonts, let me know what you think?

Yes, is, leave everything as before. Such feeling that is an official site of circus ;-)

If you have any specific or constructive suggestions I can work with moving the site forwards please tell me. The old style had been in use from 2006 so some people are bound to feel indifferent to any changes...

Teddy, the colors I used in the logo I did so it would match the ones already on the site. The blue color you used now doesn't really fit with the logo, also it would look better if the menu was entirely square without rounded corners.

I have to admit I am not sure whether I like the overall feel of the site, apart from the funky colors it always seemed a little too bright.

I suggest you temporarily switch back to the old site while we overhaul the new one entirely, most of the colors should be changed and we could bring them closer to the ones in the old site and still make it look great.

I put the blue in because it was a suggestion by another member and to get opinions since there were so many complaints about the brightness of the pink. I appreciate the logo was designed around the original colour scheme. However apart from the pink text highlight which, when I get time will play around with different colours I quite like the look of the current layout. Am I the only one? :)

As for the rounded corners, I think they look great although in Opera they never show up as rounded. I was actually thinking of making the top menu corners rounded to!

Is there really a need to go back to the old design (even though it would only take a few minutes) if it is just to get this colour scheme right or do you mean it would be better to overhaul the current design again?

If you like the rounded corners, I suggest you change the border radius from 5 to 3 px and the rss button's padding to 7px 8px 0px. You definitely should get rid of the pink color entirely, that means a new logo is needed the smiley however still looks nice. Heres what I think would be a better looking menu, ignore the square corners and assume they have the 3 px border radius.

The color I used for the menu itself is #3f6a8d, buttons are #bbcddc and #ebf1f5 in highlighted state. They have a subtle black shadow under them which I think can be done in css, when highlighted the shadow is and should be stronger. Even if you choose not to use bold arial like I did I still strongly suggest you make them all capital.

Since changes keep being made to the new site I thought it would be wise to switch back to the old one (while hosting the new one in a subdirectory say tuts4you.com/test.php) until the new one is complete. This would also help as reference for colors to be used in the new one.

I must have gone through thousands of colours this evening looking for a nice colour blend - tired eyes! Thus far I have come to two styles that seem to be okay. One was similar to how it looked previously with black navigation, blue menu and pink/red text highlights and the other being the one you have mentioned above which, is predominantly blue.

Your suggestion for the shadow and the colour variation in the navigation panel seems a good one. I tried it out and did some minor adjustments which you can see live, I also used the blue colour you suggested.

I can't get used to upper case lettering no matter how I look at it - I have tried - lol! I had lower case on one screen and upper-case on another side-by-side and something just seems slightly off with it.

If you notice everything is rounded now... :cryss:
