Just wonder why there aren't really any videos of people researching/reversing a packer/protector/obfuscator.

I think it would very interesting to see how people do it, and to learn from their methods.

there are actually plenty. Often people release their tutorials as flash videos.

Not only the length, but also the content... while analysing the target, the steps done won't help you since the important part takes place in the reverser's head. ;) In a finished tutorial, the author may explain several approaches he had and the generic principles behin an approach - that parts up to the author, how much or few details he wants to include.

Time and laziness mostly. The same reason why lots of hackers release their content in a plain txt file. It's quick and simple. Paste & Copy. Comprehending is up to the readers. Good thing the RCE community is with the PDF trend though, cause I still find it painful to go through monotonous .txt documents. :o

Once you've reached a certain level, video tuts seem to lose their appeal. You prefer dense information on a few pages, not some dude clicking around in Olly for like 20 minutes. People tend to forget to describe what they're doing in their movies, they think it's obvious even without text, but it's not.

That's what lena made so much better in her series, she didn't use movies as an excuse not to write stuff. She used it to convey and demonstrate what she's talking about.
