I recently saw a figure on browser usage and it was like 2% using Opera even way behind Safari with 7%...

I knew there arent that many Opera users but I would've thought there's more of them.

Their problem seems to be the missing hype, they don't advertise or try to compete with anyone else.

Ive been using FF ever since Firebird and I certainly prefer it over Opera. Feature-wise they look about similar but I don't like the overal look and feel of Opera at all...

For me Web Developer, Firebug, Hackbar, Tamper, and LiveHttpHeader plugins make FF superior to anything else out there. The actual functionality and look of the browser makes no difference (within reason)

In my opinion i think Opera is best web browser ever i see, i prefer to use it instead of this sick IE, i was stick with FF for sometime but when i try Opera i found new features in it never seen in FF or IE or any web browser before.

Don't get me on best browsers, Opera is by far the king :P

Browser usage figures vary depending on what site it is. I would be interested to see some stats released by Google, I am sure their statistics would be a little bit better balanced...

I love Opera, but I'm using Firefox. Main reason is AdBlock+, as some of the pages I visist (news sites mostley) is so filled up with ads that it makes it hard to read the actual news. I know it's possible to block content with Opera, I actually used that feature before AdBlock started to exist, or, before I found it that is. But are there any alternatives like AdBlock+ to Opera, where I can subscribe to ad-lists etc?

How come my opera is so slow? and it has no progress bar..

Because your proberly looking at the bottom right hand corner??

Have a look at the top URL box to the right instead "Elements: 82/82" <-- that give a nice status :)

Hmm I have'nt used Opera for nearly 10 years, SO yeah it has made some big improvments, I actually like its current release, thanks to this topic I decided to download it again. What I dont like is the limited options it has in it configuarations, for example when I right click a link and select open in new tab , I dont really want to set focus on the new tab but rather just open it and let me move over to new tab when im ready, It does seem faster than firefox, I can'nt say if its faster than explorer or not because I have'nt used explorer since version 6 , other than windows updates...

CTRL+SHIFT+CLICK opens link to a new tab in background.

The mouse wheel button click is faster. Surprisingly, many people don't know that the mouse wheel is clickable.

Been using v 9.64 for an year. And loving it!!

Too scared to upgrade to v 10, I would DIE if it overwrites any cookies, bookmarks, stored passwords etc.. (got it running on my Linux though and really like the turbo feature)

Although i like opera.. they decided to open a couple of UDP ports whether you like it or not.. so... unpack the opera.dll (its just upx :P ) then open it up in olly.. run it.. then quickly put a 'bp bind' in .. follow the call back.. and patch the stack to give it 00000000 instead of 00026c07 (UDP 1900) then problem solved.. ;) ( yep nasty patch.. lol )The problem is even if you disable the opera unite it will bind the port anyway.. it should be checked if you want that function on first before binding the ports.. enjoy.. p.s. it functions just fine after.. :) enjoy.. p.p.s. hi guys :)

Uncheck opera:config#UserPrefs|EnableUnite and check opera:config#WebServer|DoNotUseOperaAccount  But of course, patching binaries is always faster than reading manuals..

[EDIT: it's a combination of two settings, my bad]

opera 11 beta

Norwegian browser maker has announced a Beta version of Opera 11 web browser

1.Tab stacking

Opera pioneered powerful tabs. In Opera 11, tab stacking lets you drag one tab over another to create a group. Now, you can keep dozens of webpages open, organized and under control.

2.A safer address field

Opera's new address field hides the complexity of long web addresses and gives you better control of your security when browsing. Click on the badge for the website to see information about the site you are visiting. You can even get information about Opera Turbo data savings.

3.Extensions support

You can now browse Opera's extensions catalog to add new functionality easily and customize Opera just how you want it.

4.Visual mouse gestures

Mouse gestures are another Opera innovation that has been made easier-to-use with the addition of an interface that guides you. This allows new users to discover the speed and power that mouse gestures offer.

5.Better performance

Our developers have been hard at work fine-tuning our browser engine to put Opera even further ahead in a number of benchmarks. In Opera 11, pages load faster and complex applications run more smoothly.

6.Enhanced HTML5 support

Support for new standards and HTML5 technologies means that rich, dynamic web applications and multiplayer games can be supported by Opera 11.

7.Extended auto-update

A new auto-update system ensures that your extensions and Opera Unite apps are always up to date with the latest enhancements.

8.Search predictions from Google

Search suggestions predict queries as you type, making searching quicker and easier. Google search predictions are now built into Opera. When using the search field or searching from the address field with the 'g' search keyword, Google search predictions will appear.

9.Plug-ins only on demand

An option has now been added to have plug-ins such as Flash content load only when clicked. This is especially helpful to speed up browsing on computers that have difficulty handling lots of plug-in content.

10.Enhanced email in your browser

A new mail panel gives you control over the order in which your accounts and mail items show up. You can just drag items where you want them. The mail panel can also show your mail panel when you are using it and hide when you leave a mail tab.

11.Faster installation

Even with its many new features, Opera 11 is 30% smaller than Opera 10.60. That means that Opera downloads more quickly and installs in fewer steps. Getting Opera on your computer is more easy than ever.

Opera 11 went final. It crashed on me after five minutes of use, first time Opera has crashed on me in months. Not crashed since though.

I can't download any extensions from Opera website. Anyone had any luck?

Me and my girlfriend agree we'd be using Opera if it wasn't for the UI and redundant options..

I use the J2ME version on my old cell though, on desktop it's firefox for ease cause of fireftp and firebug..also not all the crapwear sub-menus

failed attempt to make a glossy skin, and all the widget, option, and bookmark duplicates in the menu system. There are also more menus on the bottom and some other places. It's performance and rendering are probably the best though..
