It's Time For A Skin Off!

Hello all fellow GFXers, I'm proposing a skinning challenge! As a prize, the winner will receive a 6 month RapidShare account (or the winner may choose another prize of the same value).

For SnD's 5th Birthday, Ufo-Pu55y has released a new patch engine called uPPP. The best feature of this patch engine for us artists, is that it uses PNG images. In addition to having multiple transparency levels, the use of PNG will allow creative freedom with irregular shapes and fuzzy edges. There are other cool features like transparent edit boxes, custom fonts, and scrolling text / sinus scrolling text.

For the challenge, SnD wants to see who can create the best looking and smallest size (in kb) skins. To start, you'll need to get a copy of uPPP and the skin creation guide from here:

http://www.tuts4you.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14792

Contest Rules:

1. No SnD Team members will submit entries.

2. Multiple entries may be submitted per person, but only one will make it into the top three (see rule #8).

3. The template must be full feature. That is, it must take advantage of all the features available... see the uPPP template creation guide for more information

4. Templates can be of any theme or style.

5. Entries must include all the files necessary for creating a patch.

6. Entries must include an example patch, that when packaged with RAR is less than 150kb.

7. Entries to be packaged with RAR and submitted by email to uPPPskinoff@gmail.com before January 30th, 2008 @ 10pm GMT

8. The SnD team will choose the three best skins. Each of the three top skins will be selected from a different person. A public forum poll will then be created so that everyone can vote for their favorite of the top three.

9. The poll results will determine the prize winner.

sounds like an excellent challenge, This will give me a great chance to show some of my Gfx skills. Is there a "due date" that the skins have to be in by?

This sounds interesting EclipTic but can you give us more details like due date, the theme and is it only for SnD or will it be a free style?

Thx

BTW @ Blah:

I found 3 sites with tons of animated boob pictures ;)

It's lame copying your style though, dunno what to do with them :D

Tell me if you need them, but I guess you already know those sites ;)

UFO converted a few of your animated tit pics to CS Source sprays, pretty good if you want to get kicked from servers lol

thanx for the offer but when im in the mood i make some of my avatars with video avatar :) (i have borrowed some from others out there as well of course.)

good app for that stuff...simply load up some clip and edit it down.. :)

there was a cool forum out there that was just for adult avatars and members would make there own from moviez etc...but unfortunatly the owner of the forum had to disable the upload option because of so many submissions or something but luckily "grandfathered" some of the older members and kept alot of there work still up(my account is still alive there luckily)...hehehe

i need to find a good place to keep some of my new ones up.those free image sites dont like adult style avatars and they get deleted....(not too many places i can use them anyhow..hehehe)

oh well....

rock on mates

cheers

B

:)

p.s..lets get back on topic before teddy freaks..hahahaha

This is almost impossible to achieve. Afterall your example patch, EclipTic - Back to Nature is 308kB (packed). I made one of 260kB (packed) and I dont wanna "squeeze" png's at all even if you reject my entry for this contest.

Cheers,

Ah yes, the Back to Nature template includes very complex PNG's. There are many different transparency levels and soft edges. You can see some of these transparent regions better if you move the patch from a dark desktop to a light desktop. I created that one to show what could be done using PNG. Keep in mind the more levels of transparency equals more kb's.

Look more at my "The Blues" template, as it's a better example for this challenge. This skin has some soft edges around the logo, a transparent border around the buttons, yet when RARed is less than 100kb. If you use PNGOUT you'll not lose any quality, so no worries about "squeezing" them.

Cheers!
